“Marigolds”

the Poem

I still live in the field of marigolds.
It’s been raining since you left.
The grass and weeds are oddly tall
And so are my regrets.
I’ve fed the soil and watched it breathe,
I’ve named all the stars I’ve seen.
The nights don’t seem to end
And I can’t sleep, sing or dream.
I’ve given the winds my words,
My will to fight and my faith.
I’m finding comfort in this pit
Clenching my wrists,
On a losing streak,
And the vultures stare
And I’ll let them stare.
