Now that thou art no longer near,
Thy presence yet I feel most clear.
Thy joy alone doth higher stand
Than my own life, by Fate’s command.

I sleep but scantly ‘midst the ruins’s care
‘Midst what remains ‘twixt us, and truth be told,
I could not say ‘t displeases me to wear
