The clouds reside within alone
While August flames the panes aglow,
We sip the waiting ‘midst the stones,
Chewing o’er promises unstable and slow.
Had I desired time once more,
I’d have sworn whilst running, see,
For time may be the only lore
That amongst all things doth flee.
Waste it not on a lengthening cord,
As but I lengthen my coffee’s draught,
For September then forgets, accord,
What once we were, our paths now distraught.

September Forgets
