Shreds: “Year”

By

‘Twas a long springtide to endure
Dwelling here alone
With all the winds whispering pure
What thou didst say one eve’s tone
Of how I would miss thy words
About the future unknown.

‘Twas a long summer to bide
Hanging upon the wall
And all the suns thou left aside
Ne’er were so cold, I recall,
And I tortured the minutes
With smoke and my chords’ thrall.

‘Twas a long autumn to breathe
And sleep with me and only me,
‘Mongst the pine needles and coffee dew,
Killing the hours, as I often do,
In a courtyard not mine, dear,
Lost in reverie.

‘Twas a long winter, to be kind,
To sink in mud and muddy snow,
Smiling at liquors and glasses of awe,
Sipping bitter smiles
In a city that has eyes,
Yet eyes that pain recall.

O, was it never-ending,
The year that like rain did descend
Though, round the corner, pending,
Lay two more years to contend.
