Shreds: “Sun”

By

A pale sun doth glide through grimy panes
And salt flows unbridled, yet still the pain remains
For in me hands are quills but dreams I inscribe
And long I have lingered outside these gardens alive.

Only a sun encircles me with naught
Whilst the monotone sound o’ soles is wrought,
Echoing ‘n rhyme ‘gainst white walls it seeks
And I watch that part of me that slowly leaks.

Pure as the rising of a lightning flash,
For with today’s sun, it hath no match,
Yet like a thunder, a swift, savage light
Of a million hues did paint me heart bright.

Indeed, I drew benefit, not a doubt,
As from an April sun’s genial bout,
Like a blade that finds use ‘n a hammer’s fall
But destined for a pit in the courtyard’s thrall.

Thus were we, in ignorance steeped,
At the sun’s descent, my regrets heaped,
Thee, bathed in jade, magnolia, and gold,
At thy funeral, from the farthest desk, I behold.
